TVC DEI Definitions

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the TVC Board of Directors has written the following definitions:

Diversity: The full range of visible and invisible differences that define each of us as human beings. Differences in age, race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomics, geographic and academic/professional backgrounds; people with different opinions, backgrounds (degrees and social experience), religious beliefs, political beliefs, sexual orientations, mental or physical ability, learning style, gender identity and life experience.

Equity: means ending historic, unfair or remediable differences so that all people have what they need to live their healthiest, most fulfilling and happy lives, such as housing, healthcare, education and financial security. TVC advocates for an equitable society where older adults are able to age well and safely, with the support and connections they need.

Inclusion:  Inclusion means sharing power with historically excluded individuals and/or groups, recognizing and celebrating differences, removing barriers, both physical and psychological, so that all people have an equal opportunity to enjoy the benefits of public benefits and facilities. Inclusion promotes systems, structures and processes that foster a sense of belonging, connection and community where all people feel known, welcomed and valued.
